Chapter 9

Killadangan joined with neighbouring Kilbarron in 1930 to contest the intermediate hurling championship. The combination
won its way to the North final, played before a large crowd at Borrisokane on Sunday 10 August 1930. In what the Nenagh Guardian
of 16August 1930 described as "one of the best games seen in this division this season", Killadangan-Kilbarron's
opponents, Templederry, dominated the opening half and led by 1-3 to 1-0 at half time. The Shannonsiders' score came when
Maurice Corboy grabbed a loose ball, wheeled swiftly and slammed it to the net. Pat Cahalan, the Shannonsiders goalkeeper,
had brought off some magnificent saves, but an injury forced him to retire. Jack Mackey replaced him in goals and Mickey Hogan
came on as a substitute.
In the second half the Killadangan-Kilbarron defense- especially Jack Hoctor and Martin Moran- gained the upper hand.
Rody Gleeson, now playing splendidly at midfield, was supplying plenty of ball to the forward line. Maurice Corboy grabbed
a second goal and danny Gleeson crashed home a third to give Killadangan-Kilbarron the lead. Mick Quirke scored a fourth,
and Rody Gleeson, claimed the "Nenagh guardian", crowned a fine personal display by netting the final Goal. But
Rody modestly admitted that this was an error and that Mick Foley ( or more accurately a Templederry back man ) ought to be
credited with the score. It seems that Mick misdirected a shot across the goal-mouth, but an inrushing Templederry defender
accidently batted the ball into his own net. But, however that came , the score at the final whistle stood at Killadangan-Kilbarron
5-0, Templederry 2-4.
